Sports Premium

All primary schools are now in receipt of £8000 per year (+£5 per pupil) for Sports Premium. Our commitment to sport and activity is to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to be involved in a range of sports and different activities that promote health and well-being.

Our involvement with Inspire+ allows us to spend our Sports Premium money on effectively encouraging sport and leadership through a range of different incentives for staff and pupils. This includes coaching, staff and pupil training, parental training and involvement, gifted and talented and low self-esteem workshops and a range of opportunities for pupil development in sports leadership.

The funding has been used in the following ways:

  • Training courses for staff in a variety of sporting activities from tag rugby to Zumba.
  • Staff working alongside specialist coaches in P.E. gymnastics, Tag Rugby and Cricket.
  • Working in partnership with Inspire + to improve sport and activity.
  • Purchasing new sporting equipment for school.
  • Encourage our children to improve their leadership skills through sport.
  • Give extra support in PE to our most talented children and include those with special needs in sport.
  • Make links to other community sports providers.

The Outcomes have been:

  • Increase in the number of after school sports clubs.
  • In 2014/15 Bythams ran the following ‘After School Clubs’, throughout the year. Football, Tag Rugby, Netball, Kwik Cricket, Rounders, Multi-Skills and Table Tennis.
  • Increase in number of sporting and athletics teams entering leagues and competitions.
  • Increase in variety of sports being played in school.
  • New netball posts, football goals, tennis equipment, kwik cricket equipment, playground equipment, volleyball nets and balls, tag rugby equipment and a variety of other sporting activity equipment.
  • Following a successful Sport England, Primary Spaces grant application, we were able to build a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) by uterlising some of the sport premium money available. The MUGA was built in July 2015 and is a fantastic new sports area, which all pupils will be able to use throughout the year. Please see pictures below.

At Bythams we are delighted to have been informed that the Sports Premium has been guaranteed now until 2020 meaning we can expand our sports and health opportunities for an extended period of time and provide our pupils with continued opportunities for the foreseeable future.
